The Yin and Yang Dragons
​This artwork is more than just a sculpture; it is a profound visual embodiment of the mystery of creation. Two majestic dragons, skillfully carved from tusk, interweave in an eternal cosmic dance, symbolizing the ancient philosophy of Yin and Yang and the universal balance of opposites.
​The Yang Dragon (Light Principle): Its mighty head is directed upward, and its scales subtly shimmer with silver flecks, symbolizing light, activity, strength, and celestial power (Tenryu). It represents the energy of creation, the day, and clarity, bringing good fortune and aspiration toward the sublime.
​The Yin Dragon (Dark Principle): Its graceful body arches below, embodying darkness, tranquility, water, and the depths of the earth (Kairyu). It is the guardian of ancient secrets and hidden wisdom, symbolizing the passive principle, intuition, and the strength lying beneath the surface.
​In Japanese mythology, dragons are deities of water and protectors, and their intertwining here is not a fight, but a deep, unbreakable union. They demonstrate that true power and harmony are born from the perfect balance of these great opposites. Their eternal embrace maintains the cosmic order and equilibrium of all things—from the celestial spheres to the boundless ocean depths. This okimono serves as a powerful reminder and an invitation to the owner to find this balance within themselves, recognizing the unity of light and shadow, strength and calm.
